If your Echo Show is not responding to voice commands, it can be frustrating—especially when Alexa usually responds instantly. Whether it’s ignoring your wake word or simply not reacting to any command, the issue can often be resolved with a few simple steps.
1. Check the Microphone Status
The most common reason for this issue is that the microphone is muted. On Echo Show devices, a red line across the screen or a red indicator means the mic is off.
Fix: Press the microphone button (usually located at the top of the device) to unmute it.
2. Restart Your Echo Show
A quick restart can resolve software glitches that may be affecting voice recognition.
Fix: Hold down both the mute and volume down buttons for about 15 seconds until the device reboots.
3. Ensure You’re Using the Correct Wake Word
Your Echo Show responds to a wake word like “Alexa,” “Echo,” or “Computer.”
Fix: Say the configured wake word clearly and wait a second before giving your command. You can check or change the wake word in Settings > Device Options > Wake Word.
4. Check for Background Noise
Loud environments can interfere with Alexa hearing you. Move to a quieter area or reduce TV/music volume when speaking to your Echo Show.
5. Update Firmware and Check Wi-Fi
Ensure your Echo Show is connected to Wi-Fi and running the latest software. Go to Settings > Device Options > Check for Software Updates.
6. Factory Reset (If Nothing Works)
As a last resort, perform a factory reset via Settings > Device Options > Reset to Factory Defaults.
If your Echo Show still isn’t responding, contact Amazon support for further assistance.
